Resumo

In this work, the School was approached as a priority institution in accelerating the process of knowledge about the environment, according to a local society unprepared to deal with the tools: ecological footprint and ecological calculator. In this sense, the underlying issue was to question whether the School as an institution should be circularly tooled with the contribution of environmental economics, transforming them into environmental education. That said, the methodology of case studies was used, observing a local school in the city of Campina Grande, PB. The results revealed a lack of knowledge and curiosity regarding environmental concepts, as well as urged that the School should be the instrument of this new history, where the environment and society through a transversal and multidisciplinary education would pierce spaces more quickly through basic knowledge.
